Outdoor Diversity Alliance and Outdoor Recreation Roundtable Partner on New Outdoor Pathway Scholarship Program
There's a new resource for students from underrepresented communities who want a career in the outdoor industry or an environmental field.
The Outdoor Diversity Alliance (ODA) and Together Outdoors have partnered to create the Outdoor Pathway Scholarship. This initiative provides recipients with $5000 in scholarship funding over two years, along with mentorship and assistance with job placement in the outdoor industry or environmental field.
Applications for the Outdoor Pathway Scholarship application must be received by March 28, 2024. ODA and TO will announce at least two grant recipients in early May. Complete details on the program, including eligibility requirements and application process, can be found here.
ODA, a group of outdoor brands committed to collectively advancing equity in the industry, developed the scholarship program criteria based on feedback and recommendations from its community advisors, who represent outdoor affinity groups and historically marginalized communities and provide input about how ODA can best serve their communities.
TO and ODA hope to raise additional funds to expand this new scholarship initiative. Companies or individuals interested in donating to the program should contact the Outdoor Diversity Alliance at outdoordiversityalliance@gmail.com.
“Together Outdoors is proud to support this new program for students from underrepresented communities to pursue careers in conservation and the outdoors,” said Ambreen Tariq, senior program director at Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and Together Outdoors Coalition Lead. “Outdoor recreation generates $1.1 trillion in economic output and supports nearly 5 million jobs. Creating more pathways to these meaningful careers for a new, diverse generation of young people will make our industry more vibrant.”
